Programs and Partnerships

Each year several hundred MLES students, mostly from our middle schools, participate in ESL focused summer and winter camps through our partner institutions in Canada, Australia, the US and Korea. Students experience another culture and at the same time improve their English language skills through immersion in an English language environment. Our students always return with a new view on the world along with more confidence in their spoken English skills.

MLES is pleased to work with our partners each year to promote university summer academic programs and to assist our students’ application for participation. Each year we have a number of students participating in these programs at UC Berkeley and Stanford University, with new programs always under consideration.

Through partnership agreements in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, MLES partners with colleges and universities worldwide. Through these MOU’s we establish mutually beneficial practices including pathways for student admission, data sharing on student success and in some cases scholarship and award programs.

MLES teachers have an option to obtain an Education Degree with the Royal Roads University Masters Program. This program is offered at our Dalian campus, and through on-line courses during the year.

Each year MLES organizes university tours during the summer and winter holiday periods for our high school students. Students participating in these tours visit 8 – 12 universities over a two-week period, either across Canada or the US. While on the university campuses students tour the facilities and have the opportunity to meet with university admissions staff and in many cases with MLES alumni. Our partnerships with key universities make these visits very successful and are instrumental in assisting students to make their post secondary decisions.

International Students in China

New to MLES we are beginning to offer ESL summer camps for international students on our campuses. Our facilities, locations and highly developed ESL programs for young learners allow us to offer dynamic programs for school groups from outside of China. Our programs offer a mix of English language learning within a uniquely Chinese environment. Chinese language learning can also be included.

MLES is encouraged by the number and range of scholarships and awards granted to our graduates each year and we work closely with university and college partners to assist in promoting institutional awards and, where appropriate, assisting with student selection.

MLES partners with local government authorities and universities each year to co-host Maple Leaf English Speech Contests. This very popular event is in its 18th year in Dalian.
