Accomplishing Ecctis Benchmarking

The question arose as how to obtain an additional international authoritative accreditation for The Maple Leaf World School Program? To ensure the authority of the assessment report, Dr. Sherman Jen led a team to visit four international accreditation agencies, namely Ecctis, Cambridge Accreditation, University of Oxford Accreditation and Nuffic in the Netherlands.

After review, the choice Dr. Sherman Jen made for Maple Leaf Education was to seek an additional authoritative quality assessment report of Maple Leaf World School Program and benchmarking with A-level curriculum from the UK National Information Centre (Ecctis).

Dr. Sherman Jen selected benchmark certification by Ecctis, because it is the world's first organization officially designated by the UK to carry out assessments for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills, and because its authority and influence are highly respected in the education sector. Ecctis has the world's most complete global databank of qualifications, including more than 4,000 international qualifications, covering 200 countries and territories. The quality assessment report of Maple Leaf World School Program benchmarking with ALevel issued by Ecctis will enhance the international credibility of Maple Leaf curriculum and ensure the acceptance of Maple Leaf graduates into top world-famous universities.

On 28th October 2019, Dr. Sherman Jen led the team to the Ecctis headquarters. The CEO of Ecctis warmly welcomed the founder of Maple Leaf and the delegation, as she said earlier that she would "definitely meet the founder of Maple Leaf Education and the delegation in person". "They have known Maple Leaf Education well, so they value us as much as we value them," said Dr. Sherman Jen with deep feelings.

Dr. Sherman Jen and the Ecctis CEO and their teams had an in-depth exchange regarding benchmarking the Maple Leaf World School Program with Canada, USA, and UK A-level curricula and reached an important consensus. First, Ecctis committed to reviewing and benchmarking the Maple Leaf World School Program over three years and to provide guidance on process quality control. Second, the Maple Leaf World School Program course frameworks and overviews were reviewed and strategies discussed as to how best align them to benchmark them with UK A-Level course frameworks and overviews. Thirdly, the senior analyst of Ecctis would work directly with Mr. James Beeke, the Superintendent of the Maple Leaf World School Program, to solve the technical issues that would arise in the process of benchmarking. The above consensus was the desired result of Dr. Jen. The benchmarking accreditation of Ecctis is of great value and international significance for the acceptance of Maple Leaf World School Program as a globally recognized international curriculum system.

In May 2023, the benchmarking work carried out over three school years was completed. The overall review and evaluation report given by Ecctis confirmed that:

The Maple Leaf World School Program grade 12 diploma may be considered to meet the general entry requirements of undergraduate admission for universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

Ecctis confirms that students who complete five of the eight academic courses offered in the Maple Leaf World School Program in grade 12 meet the A-Level standards. MLWSP students do not need to take AP or other courses to meet UK A-level standards.

Ecctis’ benchmarking also determined that the MLWSP academic and graduation standards are comparable to those of Canada (British Columbia) and the United States (New York).

As part of its evaluation exercise, Ecctis also reviewed the MLWSP Personal and Global Leadership and the Creative Thinking and Problem-Solving courses and found that these courses help to develop a number of competencies associated with Higher Education Readiness. These include (but are not limited to) higher-level and critical thinking abilities, independent research skills, and presentation and communication effectiveness.
