  • Will Maple Leaf provide guidance on the visa application?

    Yes, after you sign your contract, the Global Recruitment Office will provide you with a document list for your work permit application, and after you receive your work permit, you can book your visa application with your designated consulate or visa center for Work Visa (Z visa) 

    Application. 

  • I am a Canadian citizen, and my higher degree is completed in the US. Where should I process the degree authentication?

    The Chinese FEB requires the degree to be authenticated by the Chinese Embassy or Visa Service Center where your higher degree is issued; in this scenario, your higher degree is issued by an American university, and you should process the authentication with the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in the US.

  • What are the normal work hours for an academic teacher?

    Our academic teachers teach four blocks that are 75 minutes each. The morning flag ceremony or exercise starts at 7:30am, and the last class normally ends around 3:35pm before clubs or meetings begin.

  • Is there a strong professional development program at Maple Leaf?

    Yes! Professional development is facilitated by both the system and school, alternating 1/2 day per month during the year. Topics focus on all aspects of pedagogy and improving collaboration and assessment.

  • Is housing or an allowance for housing provided?

    Maple Leaf does not provide housing or an allowance. However, we provide a competitive salary with representatives to help find a good home at a great cost.

  • Why are Maple Leaf contracts three years in length?

    Building a long-term rapport with the students, parents, and the local community supports student achievement tremendously. This is also imperative for business growth and organizational maturity. We seek teachers that wish to grow and innovate with our multi faceted school system.

  • Can I change the 3-year employment contract to one year in length?

    Maple Leaf only issues 3-year contracts to full time teachers. The contract states a 3- year term, but you can inform Maple Leaf before January the 15th of each contract year that you will not be returning the following year. This is when we ask for intentions for the upcoming school year. If you complete at least one year of your contract and you give the required notice, there is no penalty for withdrawing from the contract early.

  • Which salary step am I at? Is the salary projection on the offer letter my final salary step?

    According to the CV submitted to the global recruitment office, HR Office follows the contractual term 3.1 for projecting your salary in the new school year. The salary step on the offer letter will be officially confirmed once the CoE (confirmation of teaching experience) document is filled in, signed, and returned to the HR Office directly by your former employers. If you have verification of employment letters in hand provided by the former employers, we suggest you send the documents to humanresources@mapleleafedu.com for further verification. 

  • Can I purchase my own flight to China? How much will I be reimbursed?

    The teacher's first-year ticket must be booked through the school's foreign affairs secretary. Please contact your principal directly to connect you with the foreign affairs secretary. If you would like to purchase the first one-way flight ticket by yourself, you will need to gain approval from the Superintendent of the International Program.
