PRINCIPAL OF MLIS-XI'AN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

Mr. Chiu grew up in a city called Richmond located in the province of British Columbia Canada where he earned his Masters in Education and Bachelor of Science with the University of British Columbia. Mr. Chiu has been a member of the Maple Leaf community for over a decade. He has served as a science teacher for nine years before moving on to become a Registrar for two years in MLIS-Dalian. Afterwards, he assumed various roles including being vice principal at MLIS-Zhenjiang, acting principal of MILS-Xi'an, and in the last year, the principal of MLIS-Jinan. He is now serving MILS-Xi'an as the Principal of the International Program.

Carol Zhang - Vice Principal


Ms. Zhang is from Dalian, China. She completed her BC high school program at MLIS-Dalian in 2015. Upon graduation, she continued her post-secondary education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from UBC in 2019. She is currently studying for her Master’s degree at the University of Sydney. She has served both as the academic advisor and the science teacher for the past three years at MLWS-KPU and MLIS-Jinan. Her goal is to create an environment where students can be creative and innovative thinkers by maintaining a positive school community that fosters creativity and collaboration.

Bongiwe Mfeka - Science DH


Bongiwe Mfeka is a science teacher who teaches Environmental Science 12, Science 10 and Visual Art 10 courses at MILS-Xi'an. Bongiwe believes that every student can learn and can achieve to his/her totality. When she arrived in China 2018, she first taught at Guizhou Province and later at Maple Leaf International Primary School as an ESL Teacher. Bongiwe holds Bachelor degree in Education and Honors Degree in Inclusive Education from the University of South Africa.

Sandy Meng - English DH


Ms. Meng's passion for teaching can be traced back to her pre-professional days. Whether as a Graduate Assistant at Indiana University or being an Intern at Culver Academy, IN. Ms. Meng is passionate about teaching, especially being the person to inspire her students about the way of thinking. Ms. Meng has refined her teaching skills since 2015 with students from various cultural background in California, Indiana, Hong Kong, and the mainland of China. In school year 2022-2023, she is serving as the Head of English Department and teaching English 12-1.

Thembekile Sibiya - Elective DH


Ms T. Sibiya is from South Africa, where she graduated with a BA degree and PGCE from the University of the Witwatersrand. Before coming to China 4 years ago, she had worked briefly in South Africa as a high school English teacher. She has worked in various cities in China and has been in MILS-Xi'an for two years. She is currently the Master Teacher, Department Head for Electives, and Success Room Coordinator. She’s looking forward to her new journey in Xi’an and imparting knowledge to young minds.

Yassine Rabbah - Sports Coordinator


Mr. Rabbah is a dedicated English teacher focused on providing innovative, fun and inspiring classroom. Mr. Rabbah tracks record of encouraging students to master English while also nurturing their love of the language committed to finding new methods to get better results and improve the English program.

Eric Rodine - WS Teacher


I am Eric Rodine. This is my 29th year in education. Beginning my career in Arizona, that was just the start of my travels. Spending 14 years in Apache Junction, AZ, I was brought back to my home in Minnesota to help take care of my ailing mother. Upon her death, I moved to Africa, where I spent the last 8 years on the continent. 4 in Senegal and 4 in Nigeria. Now it is time to explore Asia. I am excited to join the team in Xi’an for another amazing adventure.

Mondilla Dhecerie - WS Teacher


Ms. Mondilla hailing from the beauteous islands of the Philippines has a track record of successful teaching and education reform, her vast experience in teaching various age groups young learners to adults through both online and offline across the world, from different walks of life has made her the teacher she is today. Ms. Mondilla took up her Bachelor's Degree in Education majoring in English on a full academic scholarship. After graduation, she passed the Board Exam for License Professional Teachers in her country. She decided to pursue higher education and took up her Master's Degree in English Language Education. She is also a TESOL and TEFL Certified with experience in training teachers and curriculum designing and development to meet the needs of the learners. Teaching has always been a delightful profession for her regardless of the kind of learner. Her main goal is to create an environment of warmth and care while using her experience and expertise to help students nurture their natural skills in learning and socializing so they can maximize their talents and abilities.


Gilda Rosario - WS Teacher


Ms. Rosario is a focused, creative, and multiculturally flexible facilitator of knowledge transmission, a well-driven person who never ceases to discover new and effective teaching ways and refuses mental stagnation. She is an experienced teacher and a professional, licensed educator who has unwavering passion for learning, incalculable patience, dedication, and self-motivation to work.

Haoxuan Zheng - WS Teacher


Miss Zheng studied at Lakehead University in Canada, where she earned a double bachelor's degree in mathematics and education and got the Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate in Canada. Since 2020, Miss Zheng has gained teaching experience in several high schools in Canada. As an experienced and self-driven educator, Miss Zheng can be flexible in this challenging pandemic situation to satisfy students’ various needs. Currently Miss Zheng is working as a math teacher at Xi'an Maple Leaf International School.

Juliana Sackey - World History 10 & 11 teacher

Ms. Juliana Sackey is from Ghana. She completed her high school education in 1991. She proceeded.


To pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and a Lawyer. She continued her 3years post- secondary education with the presbyterian women training teacher training college where she was trained as a teacher from 1992-1995. In pursuant for further knowledge, she enrolled for a degree programmed and obtained bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship 2005-2008, then again obtain another bachelor’s degree in law from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public administration 2012-2015. She again obtained a certificate in TESOL from Westminster college London in 2023. She has taught in different school back in Ghana and has been with Maple leaf for the past 4 years teaching different subjects at different levels. 


Her philosophy of education is that education is a wholistic exercise, that develops the mental, social, educational, physical, cultural, inter-personal and communication skills of students. Every student is endowered with individual abilities to understand, assimilate, analyze, and relate to learning for the benefit of their environment, society, their country, and the world. All they need among other things is a stimulating environment, where they can grow their abilities, natural curiosity and challenge their weaknesses. Education is not just about learning but also acquiring the necessary skills for future life.


Her goal is to see students TRY their best they could to bring forth their inherent abilities to attain their dream. Every little success of a student’s means a lot to her. She is a student’s centered kind of teacher.

Rosalyn Palomo - WS Teacher


Ms. Rosalyn Palomo has been a teacher now for over 18 years. She graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education. She obtained her TESOL Certification from De La Salle University. Ms. Palomo is also a licensed teacher. Before coming to China Ms. Palomo worked in many schools teaching various age groups and nationalities. Aside from teaching, Ms. Palomo also worked as a team leader at SELC-Global Center Philippines Corporation for 4 years. She previously taught at EtonHouse International School Dongguan for two years as an EAL teacher before working for Maple Leaf International School Xi’an. Ms. Palomo looks forward to working together with you as partners in your child’s growth and development.

Peijun Shi - WS Teacher


Ms. Shi was born and raised in Korla, China. She got her first bachelor’s degree of Engineering in Xi’an and gained a bachelor’s degree of Education in Canada. Ms. Shi is an educator who passionate for teaching in a multicultural environment. She has taught in a foreign national school in Maple Leaf Education System for one year and now she is working as a math teacher in Maple Leaf Xi’an campus. Ms. Shi believes that every student is unique and all of them deserves the best education.

Mengyao Zhu - WS Teacher

Ms. Judy is from Xi’an, China. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education (Sec) STEM from Thompson River University in Summer of 2022. Judy's eight-week certifying practicum in Kamloops, Canada at South Sa-Hali Elementary Secondary School. Before she completed her BEd, Ms. Judy worked as a Teacher Assistant on the Xi’an Maple Leaf campus. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, travelling, cooking, and staying active. She is passionate about inclusive education and hands-on, student-centered learning.

Yijie Wang - WS Teacher


Ms. Wang was born in Xi’an, China. She gained an Honors Bachelor’s degree of Science and Bachelor’s degree of education with the Lakehead University in Canada. She is a caring and passionate teacher who wants all students to be successful learners. Ms. Wang has taught in Canada for both offline and virtual high schools. She works to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and inclusive to the varied needs of students.

Evon Smith - WS Teacher

Mr. Smith is from the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. He has studied at South China University of Technology and North -West University where he earned a Bachelor of Economics in International Economics and Trade and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, respectively. He has worked in China for two years as an ESL Teacher. He believes that every student has the potential to succeed. He is excited to be a part of the Maple Leaf community and is looking forward to creating an environment where students can achieve their personal goals and become the next generation of global leaders. 

Nevern Presence - WS Teacher

Nevern Presence was born and bred in a small town called Strand in Cape Town, South Africa. He went to the University of Western Cape where he attained his Honours degree in Afrikaans and Nederlands. This year will be Nevern's 10th year of teaching and he has been part of Maple Leaf since the 2020/2021 academic year. Nevern was made Head of the Humanities department in 2022/2023 school year and will continue to do his utmost best for his department and school at large. It will also be the first time Nevern will be able to meet his students in person after the pandemic.

Jingyi Zhou - WS Teacher

Ms. Zhou is a science teacher at MLIS-X’an, teaching Chemistry 11 and Biology 12. She grew up in Hubei province, China and attended high school at MLIS-Wuhan. After graduation, she earned her Honours Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education with First Class Standing at Lakehead University in 2022. Her teaching philosophy values students’ learning progress and employs a growth mindset in the integration of pedagogies.
