Maple Leaf School – Thompson Rivers University (MLUS-TRU) is our first school in Canada. Located in the newly expanded Old Main building on Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, this learning environment offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in English.
Students complete the BC graduation program curriculum preparing them for further studies in universities around the world. MLUS-TRU offers the high school program at grades 10 to 12 with approximately 25 students per class. Focusing on academic achievement, MLUS-TRU students benefit from an English language immersion experience. Students also have the option to enroll in Mandarin language and social studies classes giving them an academic advantage in their post-secondary applications.
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has been providing educational excellence in Canada for over 45 years. TRU is an ideal university location, situated on 250 acres, with leading edge learning spaces on campus and within walking distance to the cities commercial and residential districts.

Kamloops is located in a semi-arid climate zone with dry warm summers and crisp cool winters and more sunshine and less rain than elsewhere in BC. There are four distinct seasons each with its own beauty. Average monthly temperatures range from 0C to -5C in winter to 25C to 30C in summer.
Our Principal, Mr. Blake Defieux, worked in China with Maple Leaf Educational Systems for 15 years. His educational journey began with degrees at the University of British Columbia in Geography and in Secondary Education. He went on to complete his masters degree in counselling psychology. He began his teaching career in Penticton, BC, in 1999, before joining Maple Leaf International School – Dalian, China in 2002.
Mr. Defieux taught for nine years in Dalian before taking an administrative position at Maple Leaf International School – Wuhan where he served as vice principal for two years and as principal for three years. Mr. Defieux lead the school in China with great success and is now leading MLUS-TRU, the first school in the Maple Leaf system to open outside of China. He is enthusiastic about the unique learning and personal development opportunities that MLUS-TRU can offer to all its students.
At MLUS-TRU all of our teachers are BC certified and have experience teaching in international school settings. They use best practices to promote academic success with all students. Our support team provides career and personal counseling to students and maintain regular contact with parents – we have Mandarin speaking staff on-site and provide support in other languages with assistance from the university.
Students are admitted in grades 10, 11 and 12 based on their previous grade completion, academic and English readiness and a strong commitment to their studies.

For school year 2017/18 school fees are due in full by June 30, 2017.
FULL payment of fees must be received before the official Letter of Admission, Custodianship or other required Immigration documents will be issued for international students.
Occasionally, a students application to obtain their Canadian Student Authorization is denied. In these cases, the student must submit official proof of this denial. Upon receipt of this document, the School will refund all tuition fees, less the non-refundable application fee and custodianship declaration fee.
If the student develops a medical illness whereby it is determined by the parents, the medical professionals or the school that the student should return home to their parents care the school will offer a partial refund of tuition fees. A minimum 50% of the annual tuition fee will be retained by the school.
These one-time only fees cover the application fee, notarized Custodianship Declaration, letters of admission, and any international courier fees. The total non-refundable amount is $650.00 (Application fee = $300.00, Custodianship Declaration fee = $350.00.
Homestay placements and management are provided by a third-party homestay provider through a contract agreement with Maple Leaf Education North America Ltd. The Homestay refund policy of the contracted agency will apply. Details will be provided with the Homestay application forms.
