Maple Leaf School - University of South Australia

Maple Leaf School - University of South Australia (MLS-UniSA) is located on the Mawson Lakes campus of the University of South Australia. This will be the third Maple Leaf school to open on a reputable university campus.

Located on the Mawson campus of the University of South Australia in Adelaide, this learning environment offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in English and in an Australian educational environment. Students complete the SACE program preparing them for further studies at IniSA or other universities around the world. While focusing on academic achievement and studies in English, our students also have the option to enroll in Mandarin language and Chinese social studies courses giving them an academic advantage in their post-secondary applications.

Principal’s Welcome Message

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the newest school in the Maple Leaf Group. Maple Leaf School – University of South Australia (MLS-UniSA) is a grade 10–12 bilingual, international high school that will open within the Mawson Lakes Campus of the University of South Australia in February 2019.

In 1995 Dr Sherman Jen opened the first Maple Leaf School in Dalian. Nearly 25 years later we are proud to be opening the first Maple Leaf School in the Southern Hemisphere. And where better than Adelaide? A safe, vibrant and comparatively small city that is alive with cultural diversity and international festivals.

Our affiliation with and presence within UniSA gives us many opportunities to provide a high-quality educational program that will prepare young people for tertiary study in a western university.

Our students are at the centre of the school. They are surrounded by an outstanding learning environment focused on emotional, social and academic development. Our MLS-UniSA teachers are creative, passionate and dedicated to engaging and inspiring their students in the classroom and beyond.

We expect to achieve excellent academic results because of our deep commitment to teaching and learning. Students at MLS-UniSA will work towards the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). The SACE is a modern, internationally-recognised secondary school qualification designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and personal capabilities to successfully participate in our fast-paced global society. The SACE will lead to an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) which, in combination with the SACE, can be a prerequisite for entry into UniSA or other universities around the world.

The Australian Homestay Network (AHN) has been carefully selected as our homestay provider. AHN is Australia’s largest and most recognised homestay provider. They successfully manage over 10,000 applications per year across all of Australia. AHN is committed to ensure that a homestay experience is an enriching, secure and memorable cultural experience for both students and host families.

Whilst we do not have a history, our future is exciting – it is about the continuation of Maple Leaf’s rich traditions, it is about humanity and our place in the world, it is about thinking and learning collaboratively. The values of individuality, diversity and excellence will underpin our development as a school of choice.

Having previously been Principal of independent schools in South Australia and China I look forward to leading MLS-UniSA, a school that will bring about a fusion of East and West. We are not bound by our past and we will foster a unique character, whilst ensuring that we continue to invite and encourage fresh thinking as we inspire our students, so they can step into the world beyond school with confidence and with the capacity to contribute positively to society.

If you are interested in joining our school in this exciting phase of its development, then we would be delighted to welcome you to find out more or visit our campus and spend some time in beautiful South Australia.
