Graduates & Universities
Maple Leaf’s Grade 12 graduates are recruited by western universities because:
- Numbers of High School Graduates – approximately 500 in June 2007, growing to approximately 2,000 per year in five years
- Interest in Western Universities – nearly 100% of Maple Leaf’s high school students will enroll in western universities or colleges
- English Proficiency – All grade 10-12 courses are conducted and completed in English and all British Columbia provincial examinations are written in English
- Exposure to Western Teaching Strategies – Grade 10-12 courses are taught by British Columbia, Canada certified teachers who incorporate a wide variety of western teaching strategies, e.g., critical analysis, creative writing, group discussion, hands-on activities, individual research, higher-level thinking assignments, etc.
- Western High School Diploma and Transcript – Universities can access the same British Columbia, Canada Ministry of Education records, exam marks and transcripts as they do for any British Columbia resident student.
- Issuance of Study Permits/Student Visas to Canada – Process has proven successful due to an agreement between British Columbia Citizenship and Immigration Canada to streamline the issuance of study permits/student visas to Canada to graduates from British Columbia-certified high schools.
- 100 percent of Maple Leaf’s high school graduates who applied, successfully obtained study permits/student visas to Canada in 2007.
