Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Dalian Maple Leaf Foreign National School website. The School provides an English instructional setting for kindergarten to grade 9, as well as an English language preschool for three and four year olds. When you come and visit our school you immediately get the sense that our international blend of students love coming to the school, and that cooperation and team work are valued here. You can see a lot of pride put into the work that students have displayed on bulletin boards throughout the school, and our student leaders are eager to give new visitors a tour.

Our mission as a British Columbia, Canada accredited school for grades K–9 is to provide our students with a rich language environment that supports the development of critical and divergent thinkers able to work collaboratively with others from a variety of countries and cultures. Our student centered school fosters active life long learning and promotes healthy student development academically, socially, emotionally and physically. As well, our kindergarten to grade nine students have the opportunity to learn Chinese as a Second Language. Our preschool is designed on a constructivist model supporting young children’s exploration of the world and developing their language through real life experiences and imaginary play.

As a school we believe that educating children is a shared responsibility between home and school. Parents are our partners in education and a positive relationship between home and school is important to the success of our students. For this reason, parents play a important role in our school as partners in their children’s learning, as volunteers and as participants in school events. This website is great for getting basic background knowledge of our school, and we also have a more dynamic website that is updated regularly with day-to-day activities that happen at the school. Please visit the Parent as Partners page: http://dmlfns.wikispaces.com/Parents-as-Partners or my Principal's Page: http://dmlfns.wikispaces.com/Principals-Page and other pages on the site for information, newsletters, photos and even our lunch menu.

By working together and striving for excellence, our students will be well equipped for their future education and their lives in an international world. Please feel welcomed to contact our school if you have further questions or wish to visit us.

Mr. Mark Wilkins
